Directions to the Duke University Hospital North Parking Garage
Coming by I-40
- Take the 147 Durham Freeway Exit.
- From there, take the Elba Street/Trent Drive Exit (Exit 15A).
- Follow left onto Trent Drive to the Trent Drive/Erwin Road Intersection.
- Turn right at the light onto Erwin Road.
- Cross over the railroad tracks.
- Before you reach the next light, drive into the Parking Deck on your right.
Coming by I-85 from the South or West
- Take the NC 751/Duke University Exit (Exit 170) onto US 70.
- Travel on US 70 for approximately 1.4 miles and then turn right onto NC
751.
- After approximately 3.0 miles, you will pass under the 15-501 overpass.
- Turn left onto Erwin Road.
- At the fourth stoplight, turn left onto Fulton Street.
- Take the next right onto Elba Street and then turn right into the Parking
Deck.
Coming by I-85 from the North
- Take 15-501 Bypass South, Duke University/Chapel Hill Exit (Exit 174 B).
- Take 147 Durham Freeway South (Exit 108 B) to Fulton Street (Exit 15 B).
- On Fulton Street, take a left onto Elba Street and then turn right into
the Parking Deck.
Coming by US 70 from the East
- Take 15-501 Bypass South, Duke University/Chapel Hill Exit (Exit 174 B).
- Take 147 Durham Freeway South (Exit 108 B) to Fulton Street (Exit 15 B).
- On Fulton Street, take a left onto Elba Street and then turn right into
the Parking Deck.
Coming by US 15-501 from the South (Chapel Hill)
- Take 147 Durham Freeway South (Exit 108 B) to Fulton Street (Exit 15 B).
- On Fulton Street, take a left onto Elba Street and then turn right into
the Parking Deck.
Coming by US 15-501 from the North (Roxboro)
- Follow the US 15-501 Bypass to the right when it branches at the Exxon station.
- The street name will change to Duke Street.
- Follow Duke Street to its intersection with Club Boulevard, by Northgate
Mall.
- Turn right onto Club Boulevard.
- Follow Club Boulevard until it ends.
- Turn left onto Hillandale Road, which changes into Fulton Street.
- On Fulton Street, take a left onto Elba Street and then turn right into
the Parking Deck.
Coming by 147 Durham Freeway from the East
- Take the Elba Street/Trent Drive Exit (Exit 15A).
- Follow left onto Trent Drive to the Trent Drive/Erwin Road Intersection.
- Turn right at the light onto Erwin Road.
- Cross over the railroad tracks.

Coming by Main Street (from downtown Durham/East Campus)
- Turn left from Main Street onto Erwin Road.
- Follow Erwin Road through two stoplights.
- Cross over the railroad tracks.
- Before you reach the next light, drive into the Parking Deck on your right.
All driving directions lead to the Duke Hospital (North) Parking
Deck, where patrons should park weekdays from 8am to 4pm. Weekdays
after 4pm and on weekends, patrons can try to find parking in the
Medical Center Bookstore Parking Lot, the underground Bryan Building
Parking Garage, or the parking lot at the top of Research Drive
behind Perkins Library.
Directions to the Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities and History of Medicine/Searle Conference Center. (On Foot from various locations around Duke University)
Walking from the Duke University Hospital North Parking Garage:
- Go to the street level of the Parking Deck.
- Walk across Erwin Road to the entrance of Duke Hospital (North).
- Walk into the entrance and to the back of the lobby to the bank
of elevators.
- Walk down the corridor to the right of the elevators, bypassing
the Cafeteria.
- At the end of the corridor, walk through the four doors to your
right, leading outside onto a covered walkway.
- Turn left on the walkway.
- The only building located directly on the walkway houses the
Medical Center Library. It will be straight ahead of you.
- Walk into the entrance and then through the door on your right.
- Walk through the lobby and go down the stairs to the bottom
floor. The Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities and History of Medicine
is in Room 108.
Walking from West Campus:
- If standing at the West Campus Bus Stop facing Duke Chapel,
turn right.
- Walk all the way to the last building (the back of Duke Clinics
[Hospital South]), which is the only one facing your direction.
- Enter the door, go up the stairs, and follow the winding hallway.
- Take the first available left turn.
- Then, take the next right.
- Turn left down the stairs across from the gift shop.
- At the bottom of the stairs, turn right and follow the winding
hallway.
- You will end up in the PRT area, where trams transport patients
and visitors to Duke Hospital (North).
- Walk out the back door and straight along the walkway running
parallel to the trams.
- The only building located directly on the walkway houses the
Medical Center Library. It will be straight ahead of you.
- Walk into the entrance and then through the door on your right.
- Walk through the lobby and go down the stairs to the bottom
floor. The Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities and History of Medicine
is in Room 108.
Walking from Science Drive:
- Walk to the intersection of Science Drive and Research Drive.
- Turn left onto Research Drive.
- Take an immediate right onto Service Drive.
- Walk up the hill into the parking lot in front of the Medical
Center Bookstore.
- Go up the stairs at the end of the lot to the covered walkway.
- Turn left when on the walkway.
- Walk into the building straight ahead of you and then turn right
into the inner entrance door of the Medical Center Library.
- Walk through the lobby and go down the stairs to the bottom
floor. The Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities and History of Medicine
is in Room 108.
Walking from Duke Clinics (Hospital South):
- Enter Duke Clinics through the Main Lobby or via the Bridge
from the Parking Garage.
- Walk straight ahead down the main hallway until you reach the
elevators on your left.
- Take the elevator to the Basement Level.
- Turn left after exiting the elevator, and walk through the door
straight ahead and up the incline.
- At the top of the incline, walk through the set of three doors,
located on your left.
- Take two quick rights (basically turning the corner) to get
to the PRT area, where trams transport patients and visitors to
Duke Hospital (North).
- Walk out the back door and along the walkway running parallel
to the trams.
- The only building located directly on the walkway houses the
Medical Center Library. It will be straight ahead of you.
- Walk into the entrance and then through the door on your right.
- Walk through the lobby and go down the stairs to the bottom
floor. The Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities and History of Medicine
is in Room 108.
Walking from Duke Hospital (North):
- Go to the public elevators in the Main Lobby of Duke Hospital
(North).
- Walk down the corridor to the right of the elevators, bypassing
