Duke Center for the Study of Medical Ethics and Humanities

 

Clinical Ethics Program. Philip M. Rosoff, MD, directs this program which provides consultation, education and service to Duke University Hospital staff on issues related to the ethical dilemmas and controversies of modern clinical medicine.

Research Ethics. Center faculty provide expertise in educating all those involved in research to its ethical aspects. This includes a Research Ethics Grand Rounds series and providing web-based education and resources.

Undergraduate Medical Education. Center faculty and faculty associates teach both required and elective courses in medical ethics. In addition, there are currently efforts at revising the curriculum that promise to have more time devoted to medical ethics and medical humanities.

Graduate Medical Education. Center faculty currently support an Ethics Journal Club for house staff in the Department of Medicine.

Arts and Sciences. Through faculty and faculty associates, the Center encourages the teaching of courses in medical ethics and medical humanities throughout Duke University's Trinity College of Arts and Science. Several departments, including History, Philosophy, Public Policy, Religion, etc., already offer related courses.
