Ms. Holder's research and teaching focus on the ethical and legal issues in human subjects research, in pediatrics and adolescent medicine, and in human reproduction. She has published many articles on these and other medico-legal topics and is the author of three books, all of which have appeared in multiple editions -- The Meaning of the Constitution, a text for undergraduates written while she was teaching political science at the college level, and which is currently in its 6th edition, Medical Malpractice Law, in its second edition, and Legal Issues in Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, also in its second edition.

Ms. Holder received a BA from Sophie Newcomb College, spent her first year of law school as an exchange student at King's College, London, and received her JD from Tulane Law School. She received her LLM from Yale Law School, where she then became Executive Director of its Program in Law, Science, and Medicine. Thereafter, she was Counsel for Medicolegal Affairs for Yale School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Hospital until 1989 and was, until she came to the Center, Clinical Professor of Pediatrics (Law) at Yale School of Medicine, the Institute for Social and Policy Studies at Yale, and Yale Law School.

Ms. Holder has served as President of the American Society of Law and Medicine, has been a member of four study committees of the Institute of Medicine, a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a member of the Executive Committee of Planned Parenthood of Connecticut, and a Consultant to the Alternative Reproduction Technologies Committee of the Connecticut Law Reform Commission. Currently she is a member of the Board of Visitors of the National Cathedral School,,the Board of Directors of the American Board of Pediatrics, and of the Sarah Lawrence College Health Programs Advisory Board.
